The eagerly awaited Tata Curvv, initially set for a mid-2024 launch, is now scheduled to debut around the festive season. Discover the latest updates on its EV, petrol, and diesel variants.

Tata Curvv: Leading the Charge in the Midsize SUV Segment

Tata Motors is making waves in the automotive industry with one of its most awaited models: the Tata Curvv. Originally slated for a mid-2024 release, the Curvv’s launch has been rescheduled for the festive season. This strategic delay aims to enhance Tata’s impressive lineup, particularly with its emphasis on dominating the midsize SUV segment with an electric variant. Let’s delve into what sets the Tata Curvv apart and explore the details of its revised launch timeline.

Tata Curvv Launch Details

The Tata Curvv, initially slated for a mid-2024 debut in its electric vehicle (EV) form, followed by petrol and diesel variants, has had its market launch and pricing announcement delayed by a few months. According to Autocar India, the Curvv will now make its debut around the festive season, starting with the EV variant.

Launch Timeline for Tata Curvv

  • Curvv EV: Expected by September 2024
  • Curvv Petrol and Diesel: To follow a bit later

Based on an extensively updated version of the Nexon platform, the Curvv is set to bring fresh competition to the midsize SUV market. Production for the Curvv EV will begin in June 2024, pushed from the initial first-quarter target. The petrol and diesel variants will likely enter production around September, with their market launch anticipated in late 2024 or early 2025.

Tata Motors plans to lead with the EV variant to secure an early advantage in the midsize SUV market, following the successful strategy with the Nexon EV and Punch EV. This positioning will allow Tata to compete with upcoming models like the Hyundai Creta EV and the Maruti eVX, along with its Toyota counterpart.

Reason for the Delay

The delay in the Curvv’s launch is attributed to the ongoing general elections in India, which typically impact sales. Additionally, Tata Motors aims to stabilize the production and delivery of its existing models before introducing a new segment. An official inquiry to Tata Motors regarding the delay did not receive a response.

What to Expect from Tata Curvv

Earlier this year, a near-production version of the Curvv was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show 2024. The Curvv shares its design language with the Nexon but features unique EV-specific elements. It is 313mm longer than the Nexon, with a 62mm longer wheelbase. The interior will also share many elements with the Nexon.

Under the hood, the Curvv will feature Tata’s new 125hp, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, available with both manual and automatic transmissions. The diesel variant will use the Nexon’s 1.5-litre, four-cylinder engine, making it a rare diesel offering in the midsize SUV segment. A CNG option is expected to follow later. The EV variant will use Tata’s Gen 2 acti.ev architecture, likely offering a range of 450-500km.

Tata Motors targets an annual volume of about 80,000 units across all powertrain options. They expect monthly EV sales of approximately 2,000 units, with an additional 5,000 units from the internal combustion engine (ICE) versions. Production will take place at Tata Motors’ joint venture facility with Stellantis in Ranjangaon.

The Tata Curvv’s Journey to the Festive Season

The Tata Curvv’s upcoming launch marks a significant milestone for Tata Motors, reaffirming its commitment to innovation and sustainability. By prioritizing the EV variant, Tata aims to capture a substantial share of the midsize SUV market. As the festive season approaches, anticipation builds for the Curvv’s debut, promising a blend of cutting-edge technology, stylish design, and robust performance. Stay tuned as Tata Motors prepares to unveil a game-changer in the automotive industry, setting new benchmarks and offering a glimpse into the future of transportation.
