The growth was big, with 8.3% more cars sold from January to December 2022, reaching 3.79 million.

Maruti Suzuki, always a leader, took the lead by going past two million cars in the last year. They also did their best-ever job sending out cars to other countries, hitting an impressive 2,69,046 cars during the same time. But in December 2023, they had a bit of a dip with 5.86% fewer cars sold.

Stars of the Show: Hyundai, Tata, and Electric Cars Shine:

Hyundai and Tata had a good year in 2023, selling their most cars ever. Hyundai sold a big number—7,65,786 cars in CY 2023, up from 7,00,811. Tata Motors sold a total of 5.53 lakh cars. For Tata, this is the third year in a row where they sold the most cars, thanks to people loving models like the Nexon compact SUV and Punch micro SUV.

Tata also stayed on top as the best seller of electric cars in India. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra got fourth place, selling a total of 3,33,777 cars in the last year, which is a big jump from 2,59,858 cars in the same time in 2022. In December 2023, Mahindra sold a total of 35,174 cars, going up by 24% from last year.

Toyota’s Jump and Other Cool Moments:

Toyota Kirloskar Motor did really well, selling 46% more cars than before, reaching an impressive 2,33,346 cars. This happened because they launched new cars like Innova Hycross, updated Innova Crysta, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Glanza. In December 2023, Toyota sold 22,867 cars, going up by a huge 119%.

Honda Cars India sped up with a 12% jump in December last year, selling 7,902 cars. Meanwhile, MG Motor India had a big jump of 18%, selling 56,902 cars in the current year, with a 13% jump in December 2023, selling 4,400 cars.
